CHICKEN AND RABBIT PROJECTS
The aim of Living Positive Kenya is to make these women independent and self-sufficient. One way that we achieve this goal is to provide them with chickens and rabbits that they can raise and sell in their homes. They can then use that money to pay for costs such as transportation to the hospital or food for their families.
As LPK continues to grow, so do our goals. We are proud of all of the women that enter into our program; however we want to enrol more and more women into WEEP. The waiting list for women looking to enrol continues to grow. Unfortunately, our rented office location can only accommodate so many women. That is why we have purchased some farmland so that we can construct a WEEP Centre. We hope to be able to accommodate up to 30 women at a time in our new centre.
KITCHEN GARDENS PROJECT
Like the chickens and rabbits, kitchen gardens are an additional source of personal income for the women. We provide them with sacks filled with soil and fertilizer, and they are able to grow and sell vegetables right from their homes.
We have partnered with Ngong Township Primary in our town of Ngong. Now parents can buy uniforms for their children from us. Thanks to this project, our women are able to obtain a job and prepare uniforms for the students of the Ngong Township Primary.
We currently have four functioning fish ponds and water circulation systems. We sell the fish and invests the money back into the business skills development class in WEEP. The fish are also a source of nutrition for the women and children who are vulnerable to infections that result from poor dieting. Good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle help them live long, happy lives.
Our gift shop here at the LPK office is extremely important to us! The gift shop is where the ladies can display the incredible skills they learn in their classes. The money from sales goes right back to the women in the program.
